On a recent visit to the UK, I couldn't resist visiting The Woodstore in Brighton. This not for profit recovers timber from builders and demolition companies from all over England's South Coast.
With a fully equipped workshop, they are able to provide training and skills to their community including people recovering and reintegrating back into the Brighton community.
Store Manager Steve described some of the work they do and timber that they reuse. Interestingly, they also access unusual sources of timber such as end-of-life scaffolding planks which Steve tells me makes excellent furniture.
In addition to domestic furniture, they have also made a name for themselves in creating unique shop and retail fit-outs and furniture.
As well as a well stocked timber warehouse, they also sell the furniture made by volunteers and trainees in their workshop.
As well as handmade furniture, The Woodstore also sell reclaimed furniture, ironmongery, cut to sized timber including shelving and low carbon cement.
Thanks to Steve from The Woodstore, Edward Street, Brighton.
